What Is Its Impact
The students who participate in this educational program are given the opportunity to have their lives changed forever. Students are willing to make great sacrifices to attend a Cristo Rey school. Many students work hard to overcome difficult or sad home situations and must navigate constant peer pressures to join gangs, drop out, fall behind, or lose motivation. Like the students at other Cristo Rey schools, Providence Cristo Rey students are expected to graduate from high school and be college-bound. Nationally, 99% of the 2007 graduates of Cristo Rey schools are enrolled in college. Moreover, in a check of Cristo Rey students five years after graduation, 83% had either graduated from college or were on track to do so.
