What kind of student does PCRHS accept?

Students do not have to be straight A students. However, Providence Cristo Rey High School is looking for students who consistently pass or excel in their classes and who are motivated and want to go to college. Because each student also participates in the Corporate Work Study Program, each applicant has to present documentation and be legally eligible to work.

What kind of classes do students take?

All of our students take college prep courses with the goal of earning a Core 40 or Core 40 with Honors Diploma. In January, the school offers a minimester in which students can choose different project-based electives (Criminology, Chinese Culture, Art, Music, Social Problems and so on.).

The school day starts at 7:30 am with an assembly. Students typically take six classes. The day ends at 4 p.m. Everyday from 4-5 p.m. students may take advantage of the after-school success program that includes tutoring, opportunities for group study, and silent supervised study. Each week, the student also spends at least one day on the job at a corporate work study site from about 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Do you have to be Catholic to attend PCRHS?

No, in fact the majority of our students are not Catholic. However, students have to take theology all four years. In this class, students are encouraged to develop a personal relationship with God and an understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. They also study what the Catholic Church teaches on a variety of subjects. In addition, students pray daily and participate in prayer services and retreats. If they are not Catholic, they are encouraged to continue to grow in their own faiths as well.

What kind of transportation does the school provide?

Right now we have shuttle pick up points on the East and West sides. We choose our shuttle points based on where clusters of our families are located. We also provide Indy Go passes free of charge to our students.

How much does it cost to attend PCRHS?

All families are expected to pay something, called the family contribution. The students earn about 75% of their tuition through the corporate work study program. Families pay the remaining 25%. Financial aid and scholarships are available to help pay some of those costs for students that qualify. About 98% of our families receive some type of financial aid.

What about athletics and clubs?

Providence Cristo Rey currently fields teams in cross-country, soccer, girls volleyball, and boys/girls basketball. The school also has a weightlifting club, student council, book discussion group and is evolving other extracurricular clubs as students ask for such groups.
