Campus Ministry
The campus ministry program celebrates that each student is made up of body, mind and spirit. In an intentional way, the campus minister strives to provide a variety of opportunities and activities to enable each student to grow fully as a disciple of Jesus Christ who is aware of God’s Providence unfolding in his or her life. Conscious of the rich religious diversity of the students at Providence Cristo Rey High School, the campus minister collaborates in these efforts with school faculty, student leaders, priests from local parishes and pastors from the students’ varied congregations. Campus ministry activities include:
- Daily prayer
- Liturgies and prayer services
- Retreats
- Christian Service
Daily Prayer
Students begin each day with community prayer led by both the campus minister and a student.
Liturgy and Worship
As students in a Catholic school, Providence Cristo Rey students participate in monthly liturgical worship services that mark important feasts and moments in the cycle of the disciples’ life, e.g., the opening and closing of school, holy days, Thanksgiving, Ash Wednesday. and Good Friday.
Retreats
Each year, students participate in a retreat experience designed specifically for their class. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors attend a day-long retreat and seniors have an overnight experience.
Christian Service Expectation
In Matthew 25, Jesus tells the disciples of all ages that at the end of time, God will judge them on how well they have reached out “to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, provide shelter to the homeless.” Providence Cristo Rey High School therefore expects that annually each student will give 20 hours of Christian service to “help create a just and peaceful society, to bring hope to others and happiness to those who lack it.”
